The criminal complaint against Farhad Shakeri charges that in September he was directed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran to surveil and kill Trump, whom the charging papers identify as “Victim-4.” The criminal complaint was unsealed yesterday. Politico recounts that the charged attempt to assassinate Trump is only “the latest in a string of assassination plots directed at the former and future president in recent months.” President Biden has reportedly instructed his National Security Council to make clear to Iran that any attempt on Trump’s life would be viewed as an act of war.

In public, however, NSC spokesman Sean Savitt has not been been so blunt. He has put it this way: “We consider this a national and homeland security matter of the highest priority, and we strongly condemn Iran for these brazen threats.” Strong letter to follow.

And yet somehow Iran’s Supreme Leader is not persuaded. As the complaint makes out at paragraph 33.n., the “money’s not an issue” for the IRGC and they want to put it to good use. They are rolling in cash thanks to — well, thanks to Biden, the man (reportedly) warning the mullah.

Under Biden’s leadership, the United States has lost deterrence of Iran. We shouldn’t have to wait for Trump to be killed and be left with retaliation as the only option. Deterrence needs to be restored now and it will require something beyond more mush from the simp.
