Will the Democrats ever again win a presidential election? This tweet and map are fascinating, based on projections regarding the 2030 census:

A Republican majority without Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin or Nevada. It is based on this forecast of population growth:

The brute reality is that blue states are shrinking, and red states are growing. Failing states like California, New York, Illinois and Minnesota will lose representation, and therefore electoral votes, while thriving states like Texas, Florida and Tennessee will gain electoral votes. So time is on the Republicans’ side.

Democrats hope that they can turn states like Texas and Florida blue, but there is zero sign of that happening. That is partly because Americans who flee blue states for red states are bringing conservative values, not liberal ones. But even more fundamentally, it is because conservative families, on average, have more children than liberal families. It is likely this fact that caused Democrats to open our borders to millions of third-world immigrants, who, the Democrats hope, will be future Democratic voters.

But this demographic analysis omits another important factor: in this year’s election, blue states got redder, as minorities shifted to the Republican Party. If that trend continues, the map will be even more favorable to the GOP.

So the Democrats have much to worry about. And that doesn’t even begin to consider the fact that the Democrats are, intellectually, out of ammo. I hope to address that point soon.
