While Alyssa Milano has broken many GenX hearts with the way she has gone batsh*t crazy, it is nice to know not all of our 80s crushes have lost their marbles. Justine Bateman is pretty based and has become one of the more entertaining Twitter follows. I’d look up to see which way Soleil Moon Frye swings to split the difference, but I don’t have the strength.
Justine played Mallory on the 80s hit Family Ties, which was a cornerstone of the last Republican renaissance during the Reagan years. Her brother Alex P. Keaton (played by Michael J. Fox) was America’s favorite young Republican. While Bateman appears to swing right (she could be more RFK Jr.-ish), she is not without sympathy for the left. The actress and producer has been drawing on her over 40 years of filmmaking expertise to help people with their anti-Trump social media meltdowns.
Offering constructive criticism, if you will. For instance, it’s all about location, and having a meltdown in your car has been overdone.
Here is one that crosses genres and combines the leftist meltdown video with the makeup tutorial video. This, plus the lighting, scored points in Bateman’s eyes.
Not everyone puts in that much effort. In critiquing this video, Bateman concludes, “Overall, the director did not pay enough attention to key elements of this piece—pacing, the direction of the actor, framing, and lighting. Slow down, take it all in. Do your job.”
Justine was also willing to critique the critiques of her critiques. People should appreciate the service she is offering them for free. This would cost a fortune in consulting fees or tuition at NYU Film School.
Hopefully, if Justine has the time, she can help with this 4B Movement, where women are pledging not to have sex with men for four years (because something something Trump)… while shaving their heads. They could use criticism from a filmmaking professional.
