Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., on Tuesday quoted Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., saying that the working class was ignored which is why former President Donald Trump won the election.
“I generally don’t quote or paraphrase Bernie Sanders, but in this case I will,” Johnson said on the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show. “When you abandon the working men and women of America, you shouldn’t be surprised when they abandon you.”
Sanders is self-described as a Democratic-socialist and often talks about the struggles of the working men and women in the U.S. He accused the Democrats of “abandoning working class people,” which he says cost them the election.
The 2024 presidential election was called for Trump in the early hours of Nov. 6 after Trump managed to win the swing states of Georgia and Pennsylvania.
“The fact of the matter is that Democrat governance has been a disaster for this country,” Johnson said.
He went on to cite illegal immigration, the war on fossil fuels and referred to the Democratic Party as the party of elites.
“We are the party of the working men and women of this country, the people who make this country great,” Johnson said.
