Georgia GOP Gov. Brian Kemp on Wednesday ordered flags at the state Capitol and Fulton County to be flown at half-staff on Thursday in memory of Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus, who died on Monday night.

Marcus, who was 95 at the time of his death, established The Home Depot with co-founder Arthur Blank in 1978. With his help, the company into a $400 billion hardware giant that became one of Americas largest employers with  2,300 stores. 

He has also been an avid supporter of conservative politics, and endorsed President-elect Donald Trump in 2015.

Kemp praised Marcus’s contributions to the state of Georgia, where two of the companies’ first stores were opened, and said the state was mourning the loss of the entrepreneurial giant. 

“Bernie Marcus was an icon of the business world who created jobs and opportunities for generations of The Home Depot employees,” Kemp said in his executive order. “His considerable philanthropy will also reverberate through history, touching lives for the better.”

Marcus died surrounded by family at his home in Boca Raton, Florida, per the Associated Press. The flags will be flown at half-staff on the same day as Marcus’ funeral.
