Montana GOP Senate candidate Tim Sheehy is projected to defeat Democratic incumbent Sen. Jon Tester, according to The Associated Press.
The GOP took control of the Senate late Tuesday night, picking up two seats in West Virginia and Ohio. Sheehy’s win increases the GOP’s lead in the Senate.
Sheehy took 53.3% while Tester got 44.9% as of press time.
Sheehy is a former U.S. Navy SEAL and a close ally of former President Donald Trump.
“Since day one, we’ve been running a grassroots campaign, talking directly with Montanans about how we make Montana affordable again, make America strong again, and bring back Montana common sense, which means a secure border, safe streets, cheap gas, cops are good, criminals are bad, boys are boys, and girls are girls,” Sheehy said.
Tester confirmed that he called Sheehy to congratulate him.
