Angela Alsobrooks has won the Maryland Senate race.

Democrat Angela Alsobrooks faced off against Republican Larry Hogan in the race for the Maryland Senate seat.

Alsobrooks is currently the county executive of Prince George’s County, Maryland’s second largest jurisdiction in the suburbs of the nation’s capital.

“Angela Alsobrooks is our only chance at defending the Senate majority and blocking MAGA extremists from attacking our democracy,” her website states.

As the senior law enforcement officer in the county, Angela defended families by taking on some of Maryland’s most heinous criminals while showing respect and dignity to both the accused and victims.

Alsobrooks became the first woman to serve as Prince George’s County Executive in 2018 and the first Black woman elected to the position in Maryland’s history.

She says that she has concentrated on increasing economic opportunity and job creation, investing in education and constructing new schools, increasing access to health care, treating addiction and mental health issues, reaching out to young people, and ensuring the community is safe.

Her top concerns are gun safety, access to abortion, standing up for workers, education, equality, and assisting illegal immigrants.

“Angela was a vocal advocate and pushed to pass legislation allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses, promoting safer roads and enabling immigrants to legally commute to work,” her campaign website continued.

The race was an uphill battle for Larry Hogan, as a Republican candidate has not won a Maryland Senate race in more than 40 years.

Hogan boasts that his late father, Congressman Larry Hogan Sr., became the first Republican to come out for the impeachment of former GOP President Richard Nixon.

Hogan continued, “That’s why I have made the decision to run for the United States Senate – not to serve one party – but to fix our nation’s broken politics and fight for Maryland.”

“As governor, I was driven by one guiding principle: help people keep more of their hard-earned money. Over eight years, our administration cut taxes every single year, saving Marylanders $4.7 billion. For working families, retirees, first responders, and small businesses, every bit of relief counts when inflation has driven up the cost of essentials like housing, food, and childcare. With Marylanders dealing with hundreds of new taxes and fees–and more on the way–I am committed to bringing a pro-taxpayer approach to Washington,” Hogan stated.

The Republican was endorsed by 45th President Donald J. Trump back in June. However, when the Senatorial candidate found out about Trump’s endorsement, he said “I didn’t seek it, I didn’t want to have it and I have no interest in it.”

It was rumored that Trump made an exception for his disgruntled critic since flipping the Maryland seat would be vital to help Republicans regain control of the Senate.

Nevertheless, Hogan continued to prioritize dragging Trump over helping his own party in regaining power.

He is endorsed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Log Cabin Republicans, and the Republican Jewish Coalition, among a number of other groups.

At the time of this reporting, Alsobrooks won with 52.5% of the vote compared to Hogan’s 45.1%.

69% of the vote has been counted.
