Mike Braun has won Indiana’s Gubernatorial race.

Democrat Jennifer McCormick went head-to-head against GOP Senator Mike Braun in the race to be Indiana’s next governor.

Hoosiers elected Braun to represent them in the upper chamber in 2019. He also served in the Indiana House of Representatives from 2014 to 2017.

Braun is also an entrepreneur, taking over a struggling farm equipment manufacturer in 1981, called Meyer Body. It has since grown in to a national company, with locations in 38 states, and employs thousands of Americans.

“Mike has been a conservative voice for Hoosiers… having led over 35 bills into law and was recently named the most effective first-term Republican Senator,” Braun’s campaign website says. “Mike has also consistently been ranked as one of the most conservative members of the United States Senate.”

Braun said he’s running over concern about how the country is shaped for the next generation, centering his campaign around jobs and economic growth, improving education, protecting parental rights, pro-life, the border and more.

Indiana has never elected a woman as governor.

Jennifer McCormick said she’s running for governor because she’s tired of the supermajority focusing on issues that have nothing to do with the challenges the people of Indiana face every day, adding it’s time to elect a leader that puts Hoosiers first.

McCormick was elected State Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2016, but she ran as a Republican.

“As the last elected State Superintendent, she took on politics that were negatively impacting our schools and fought for what was right for kids, teachers, and parents.”

Her campaign was centered around reproductive rights, the economy, environmental protections, sustainable energy and more.

At the time of this reporting, Braun won with 58.2% of the vote compared to McCormick’s 37.2%

37% of the vote has been counted.
