Democrat Gloria Johnson faced off and lost against Republican incumbent Marsha Blackburn in the race for Tennessee’s Senate seat.

This election is a first in Tennessee history as it is the first all-woman general election for a Senate seat in The Volunteer State.

Johnson’s website says that she was a special education teacher for 27 years, who was “fed up with elected officials attacking the rights of public school students and teachers.”

She decided to run for the Tennessee House in Knoxville in 2012, where she won and “has been fighting to hold extreme politicians and special interests accountable ever since,” the site continued.

“As a member of the ‘Tennessee Three’ she demanded Republican politicians in Nashville stop with the BS and pass gun safety measures to prevent future shootings,” her website continues.

Johnson strives to “protect abortion rights, “fight for gun laws,” and “increase funding for public schools.”

Marsha Blackburn first came into public office in 1998 as a Tennessee State Senator. She was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2018.

“[Blackburn] serves on the Deputy Whip Team and is a member of the Finance Committee; the Commerce, Science & Transportation Committee; the Veterans’ Affairs Committee; and the Judiciary Committee. She serves as the Ranking Member on the Commerce Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Data Security and on the Judiciary Subcommittee on Human Rights and the Law,” according to Blackburn’s website.

Senator Blackburn has strongly opposed amnesty for all and the spread of sanctuary cities and states that operate as lawless havens for illegal immigrants. “Secure countries have secure borders,” she says. Blackburn added that she will continue to protect the unborn, “fight wokeness,” work to stop human trafficking, make sure no veteran is left behind, getting the care that they deserve, make sure biological men aren’t infiltrating women’s sports and spaces, and fight for “conservative, fiscally responsible tax policies.”

Blackburn was endorsed by 45th President Donald J. Trump.

“Senator Marsha Blackburn is doing a terrific job representing the incredible people of Tennessee in the United States Senate!”

“Marsha has been with me from the very beginning, helping advance our America First Agenda. In the Senate, she is working hard to Secure the Border, Grow the Economy, Cut your Taxes, Eliminate Needless Regulations, Support our Veterans, and Fight for our Constitutional Rights, including our always under siege Second Amendment.”

“Marsha Blackburn has my Complete and Total Endorsement!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Johnson is a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives  and is currently representing District 90, and formerly District 13, based in Knoxville.

At the time of this reporting, Blackburn won with 78.6% of the vote compared to Johnson’s 19.9%.

8% of the vote has been counted.
