There’s simply nothing like the loyalty of a dog.
Look at this:
Amanda Reynolds was reportedly living with her cousin, Derek Daigneault, at the time she was murdered.
Reynolds had reportedly expressed fear of Daigneault. She was later “shot in the head, her body was stuffed in a large plastic storage container and set on fire.”
When first responders showed up to the scene of the horrific incident, they were greeted by a “white Labradoodle who was barking at them and would not leave the scene of the fire.”
They were unable to catch the dog, but a neighbor looking for his own dog the next day came across Titan “sitting on the exact location where Reynolds’ body was discovered.”
A microchip scan of the dog identified Reynolds as the owner; authorities shortly thereafter identified Daigneault as a suspect.
And just in case it wasn’t clear, the suspected murderer acted, well, very guilty:
[McLennan County First Assistant District Attorney Ryan] Calvert showed the jury photos from surveillance video showing Daigneault at a Walmart in San Marcos buying a large storage container, a shovel and a gas can. As he backed out of the store parking lot in Reynolds’ Honda Accord, Titan’s head could be seen sticking out of the passenger’s side window. Reynolds was not seen on the store video.
Two days later, a license plate reader in Wichita, Kansas, captured Reynolds’ car there and officers across the state were on the lookout for the Honda, Calvert said. An officer in Wichita spotted the car and tried to pull it over. However, before the officer could turn on the cruiser’s emergency lights, Daigneault sped away, leading officers on a 30-minute chase through the city at speeds sometimes reaching 100 mph, Calvert said.
Daigneault would eventually crash his car into another vehicle, run into a grocery store, and then hide on the bottom shelf of a canned goods aisle, where he was found and arrested by police. They also found the murder weapon in his car.
Diagneault was sentenced to nine years for fleeing from police (among other offenses) and now faces up to life in prison if convicted of the murder.
And if it weren’t for Titan, we might not have justice for Amanda Reynolds.
