Ryan Routh, the second man who allegedly attempted and failed to assassinate former President Donald Trump, is now fearmongering from behind bars.

Routh, who is being held in a federal prison awaiting charges related to his alleged crimes, wrote a shocking letter to the Palm Beach Post after prosecutors had predicted he would try to contact the media. The unsolicited letter from “Trump Alleged Shooter Ryan W. Routh” reportedly did not contain any explicit calls for violence against the former president or his supporters, but did lament that electing Trump would result in the downfall of democracy and, in the end, a “civil war.”

Routh’s to The Post did not include calls for violence. Instead, it predicted the end of democracy and the beginnings of a civil war if Trump wins a second term. It warned that the Republican nominee “will not let go of power if we all give it to him.”

“Will Palm Beach County hand the keys to our nation to the Trumps for the next century or more?” Routh asked. “How does Palm Beach view its neighbor?”

The man who would be accused of trying to take Trump’s life was once a supporter of his. In 2023, Routh wrote an e-book in which he gave Iran permission to “assassinate Trump as well as me for that error in judgment” as he felt somewhat responsible for the former president’s election.

The letter also contained self-praise from the alleged would-be assassin.

“Say a poor person with a broken down vehicle blocking the entrance to his house or golf course so he cannot get in — would he get out and help the poor person get the vehicle fixed and moved, or would he yell and bark orders to get the crap out of the way,” Routh wrote. “I have always been the one to pull over to the side of the road and help — it is the American way. But again, I may be wrong, but I imagine Trump yelling and screaming ‘to get that piece of s*** moved.’”

The ramblings also contained a desperate plea to the people of Palm Beach:

“Palm Beach should be leading the way and guiding our country hopefully to choose democracy over a dictator. I hope that you will respect your leadership role and push your state and country to maintain our American way of life for our children. Please help.”

Routh is facing charges related to the attempted assassination, as well as possessing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number, and assaulting a federal officer. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and Judge Aileen Cannon has scheduled the trial for February.
