Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) has activated the National Guard and ordered them to be on stand-by as a precautionary move against “threats to election infrastructure.”
They will be activated from Nov. 4 to 7 until just after midnight, according to a press release issued Friday, The Hill reported.
“This is a purely precautionary measure taken in response to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s nationwide warnings regarding threats to election infrastructure and other recent activities that have occurred in southwestern Washington,” the release read.
Two ballot boxes were burned last week, one in Oregon and one in Washington state. In both cases an incendiary device was placed inside a ballot box. In the incident in Washington, nearly 500 ballots were recovered but damaged, The Associated Press reported.
No arrests have been made.
