Georgia GOP Chairman Josh McKoon on Friday slammed Democrats’ criticism of Georgia’s voter law that requires an ID to vote, stating that more voters voted after it passed.
“I mean, 52%, over half of the entire state’s voters have voted already,” McKoon said on the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show. “We’re going to have more vote this afternoon. So if this is a voter suppression scheme, it is the worst voter suppression scheme in American history.”
Georgia officials implemented new voter laws following the 2020 election, such as limiting the numbers of ballot boxes, requiring ID to vote and new rules for requesting absentee ballots, according to Fox News.
Democrats criticized the voter ID requirement, with some calling it “Jim Crow 2.0.”
“What we’ve done here in Georgia is we’ve made it easy to vote,” McKoon said. “We have made it much harder to compromise our election system. There’s always more work to be done obviously, but 2024 has demonstrated we can have people vote in-person, early, show their ID, not have 1.4 million paper absentee ballots and have an orderly process.”
He said the vast majority of Georgia voters had no problem voting early in this upcoming election.
