Long-time contributor to The Washington Post Hugh Hewitt finally reached his breaking point on Friday.

During an episode on “First Look,” left-wing reporter Jonathan Capehart insinuated that Donald Trump had recently filed a lawsuit in Pennsylvania to cast doubt on the 2024 election. Hewitt then tried to correct the record, noting that the lawsuit was not only justified, but that Trump had won it, leading to polls being opened for extra days in Bucks County.

Capehart took exception to his false framing being exposed and quickly snarked back. That’s when the Hewitt, in a must-see moment, ripped his earpiece out and stormed off the show.

CAPEHART: Is it me, or does it seem like this week Donald Trump is laying the ground work for contesting the election by complaining that cheating was taking place in Pennsylvania by suing Bucks County for alleged irregularities. And this is on top of his continued assertion that if he loses, it’s because of cheating?

That was the setup, and Ruth Marcus was quick to agree, going off on a rant confirming all of Capehart’s priors. That was when a fed-up Hewitt broke in to set the record straight.

HEWITT: I’ve just got to say. We’re news people even though we are the opinion section. It’s gotta be reported. Bucks County was reversed by the court and instructed to open up extra days because they violated the law and told people to go home. So that lawsuit was brought by the Republican National Committee and it was successful. The Supreme Court ruled that Glenn Youngkin was successful. We are news people even though we have opinions, and we have to report the whole story even if we bring up part of the story. So yes, he’s upset about Bucks County, but he was right and he won in court. That’s the story.

MARCUS: I’ll let you keep going, Jonathan.

CAPEHART: No, I’m just, I don’t appreciate being lectured about reporting when, Hugh, many times you come here saying lots of things that aren’t based in fact…

HEWITT: I’m done. This is the most unfair election and I have ever been apart of. You guys are working. That’s fine. I’m done.

Capehart went on to act shocked and appalled, claiming that he lamented Hewitt storming off. He didn’t, though. That hack knew exactly what he was doing when he falsely described the issues in Pennsylvania. Hewitt was simply trying to give viewers the full story and Capehart couldn’t handle that because he is nothing but a mouthpiece for the Democratic Party.

That wasn’t the end of it, though. Hewitt didn’t just quit that episode of some podcast. He then quit the Post altogether, resigning his position.

Good for Hugh Hewitt. I get that there’s value in conservatives having a place in the mainstream press, but at some point, enough is enough. There’s only so much abuse that should be taken, and Capehart is a partisan clown who doesn’t deserve to have Hewitt providing him with commentary.

With the Post already on the rocks and suffering serious internal turmoil, this scene just adds fuel to the fire. It is an unserious publication that has blown whatever credibility it once had. I don’t blame Hewitt one bit for finally going off and putting his foot down. More conservatives in the mainstream press should do so instead of valuing a paycheck over their dignity.
