The town of Geary, Oklahoma was suddenly thrust into turmoil when its entire police force, including the chief of police, resigned on Thursday.

Public Information Officer Terryl Allen released a statement on the shocking move, assuring locals that appropriate action was being taken to ensure public safety.

“To the Citizens of Geary. We regret to inform you, and we are sad to say that our entire Police Force resigned this morning at 10:00 am. Considering this information, we were able to quickly secure an interim Chief of Police effective immediately, so the City of Geary is being taken care of without delay,” Allen said, explaining that the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office and the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office were offering their assistance.

“We would like to let our citizens know we are conducting business as usual. If you have an emergency, please contact 911 like you normally would and an officer will be dispatched to assist you. We would also like to offer our thanks and appreciation to our former Chief of Police and Officers for their service to our community and wish them all the best of luck. The City of Geary is currently working to make repairs and restore power to all our citizens from damage that was done during a severe thunderstorm yesterday evening. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

But locals wanted to know why such drastic action had been taken by the local law enforcement.

In a post on Facebook, Geary Police Chief Alicia Ford explained her decision and hinted that the Geary City Council may have had something to do with it.

“Thank you citizens of Geary for allowing me (Alicia Ford) to serve as your chief for the past year. It is with great sadness that I and the rest of the Geary Police Officers will no longer be serving this community. This choice was very difficult to make, but it was the right decision for me and the other officers. I have watched the officers serve this community selflessly, working hard to protect and provide the best quality of service possible. They have been an amazing team that was always willing to sacrifice for this community,” Ford wrote.

“I would encourage every one of the members of this great community to take the time to get to know your council members and to be as involved as possible in the city, especially attending the city council meetings. Your voices are stronger when you stand together as one, and you all have the ability to affect the change you want to see in your community. It has been my honor to serve Geary, and I will forever cherish the people of this community,” the post concluded.

It’s still unclear why the entire force resigned at once, but Facebook commenters have come up with many different theories, ranging from accusing the city council of becoming so corrupt they backed the police into a corner, to the police being a corrupt “gang” that quit because the city council wouldn’t allow them to do whatever they wanted. Locals are still awaiting an official answer from their town leadership.
