To someone like me who talks to people all over the world and still knows America is the shining city on a hill, calling America is a trash can for the world is so unpatriotic, it makes me furious. And I will always be an American before I am a Republican. That’s why, this week, I am voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
That was movie star and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who contends that Donald Trump “will divide, he will insult, he will find new ways to be more un-American than he already has been, and we, the people, will get nothing but more anger.” Schwarzenegger’s vote for Harris should come as no surprise. The former governor once called his opponents “girly men” but that could apply to the action star his own self.
In 2003, the Republican Schwarzenegger did defeat Democrat Gray Davis but the real governor was wife Maria Shriver, daughter of Sargent Shriver, married into the Kennedy family. Schwarzenegger’s pick for director of finance was Ana Matosantos, a feminist studies and political science grad from a wealthy family in Puerto Rico. Maria doubtless made the call and Matosantos was a bust.
In 2004, Schwarzenegger joined Christopher Reeve and Michael J. Fox to support the $3 billion stem cell initiative that created the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine. The new government agency failed to create promised life-saving cures for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and so forth. On the other hand, it did ensure that already wealthy Democrats like real estate tycoon Robert Klein got even more wealthy.
Gov. Schwarzenegger made no move to eliminate the California Coastal Commission, the appointed body that overrides scores of elected governments on land-rights issues and runs roughshod over property rights. On the other hand, Schwarzenegger did succeed in knocking up the family maid. In similar style during his first marriage, Kamala Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff impregnated his children’s nanny. Maybe that explains Arnold throwing down for Kamala, master of the word salad.
Schwarzenegger now laments calling foes “girly men,” but Harris now tags Trump as a “fascist” and Democrats portray him as Hitler, with few if any regrets. We’ll see how that affects the proceedings next Tuesday.
