Vice President Kamala Harris, the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, on Wednesday made an attempt to distance herself from President Biden calling supporters of her opponent, former President Donald Trump, “garbage” during a virtual call in support of her White House bid.

Harris was asked about Biden’s statement during a press gaggle at Joint Base Andrews.

“I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for,” Harris said. “You heard my last night and continuously throughout career. I believe that the work that I do is about representing all the people, whether they support me or not.”

She also said that Biden “clarified his comments.”

Some have compared Biden’s statement to former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton saying during the 2016 election that Trump’s supporters belonged in a “basket of deplorables”

Biden tried to walk back his original comments with a post on X.
