The leftwing media are calling for Elon Musk to be arrested and imprisoned for his voter registration giveaways.

Musk recently pledged to give away $1 million per day to a select few individuals who signed a petition through his political action committee, America PAC. According to the terms, the recipients, who are chosen at random, will not be required to vote for any particular candidate (or anyone at all) in order to receive the payout.

However, given Musk’s support for Trump — and the fact that giveaways have taken place exclusively at Trump rallies — the pro-Harris media unanimously have deemed his sweepstakes a campaign finance violation, and are lobbying for the Department of Justice to step in:

Whenever the media are excited that someone they hate may have violated a law, they go shopping for an expert who’ll tell them what they want to hear. Enter Rick Hasen, a UCLA Law School professor who’s been doing the rounds on cable news to opine that Musk ought to be arrested.

For his willingness to accuse Musk of violating federal election law, Hasen has appeared or been cited on on least six different news shows in the last two days, primarily on MSNBC. During the October 21 edition of Deadline: White House, he remarked: “This, to me, seems a clear violation of the federal statute.”

CNN’s in-house legal expert Eli Honig, while more measured than Hasen, was still of the opinion that something illegal had taken place. Appearing on Monday’s The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, he offered: “Well, it’s definitely close to the line, and in my view, it’s probably over the line.”

Blitzer then read directly from the statute that he and Honig suspected Musk had violated:

Whoever knowing or willfully pays, or offers to pay, or accepts payment, either for registration to vote, or for voting, shall be fined not more than $10,000, or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.

“So, what does that say to you about what Musk is doing?” Blitzer asked rhetorically.

On Tuesday, CBS Mornings Plus spent a full segment giddily exploring the possibility of Musk being imprisoned. “You’d think maybe Elon Musk would have consulted lawyers before the giveaway began,” co-host Tony Dokoupil sarcastically quipped.

Of course, we all know the media aren’t lobbying for Musk to be locked away because they care so deeply about election integrity. For them, this isn’t about election integrity at all; it’s about Trump. Musk is aiding the media’s most hated enemy, and for that, they want to destroy him.
