A chat with the speaker of the House had CNN’s Jake Tapper insisting he didn’t want to talk about a famed professional golfer’s “manhood” despite repeatedly bringing it up.

“Jake, you seem to like that line a lot.”

Saturday in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, former President Donald Trump held a rally at the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport and kicked off roughly 90 minutes on stage with an anecdote about the hometown hero for which it was named. While the crowd appreciated the story that ended with a shower related anecdote that prompted laughter, Tapper appeared to want the focus to remain on “Arnold Palmer’s penis.”

Before House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) even began talking during his “State of the Union” interview, the lower third on CNN read, “TRUMP OPENS PA RALLY WITH 12-MIN STORY ABOUT GOLFER ARNOLD PALMER & VULGAR ANECDOTE ABOUT HIS GENITALIA.”

A condensed montage of the interview captured the anchor’s harping about the story as he repeatedly asked Johnson leading to the question from the speaker’s rapid response team, “Is this what CNN really thinks matters to voters? These people are so weird.”

As Johnson himself had said, “Jake, you seem to like that line a lot.”

During Saturday’s rally where Trump had picked up the endorsement of steelworkers and expanded on the key election question, “Are you better off now then you were four years ago?” he’d started with entertaining the crowd with tales of Palmer’s rise to success without losing touch with his roots.

In closing, he added, “…I refuse to say it, but when he took showers with the other pros, they came out of there. They said, ‘Oh my God. That’s unbelievable.’”

“I had to say it,” Trump then added with a smirk as laughs rang forth throughout the crowd. “We have women that are highly sophisticated here, but they used to look at Arnold as a man, but he was really something special.”

After speaking about a report U.S. intelligence detailing Israel’s plans against Iran had been leaked to the Islamist regime, Tapper promptly turned to Palmer’s penis.

“There’s lines in a rally. When President Trump is at a rally, sometimes he’ll speak for two straight hours. You’re questioning his stamina; his mental acuity. Joe Biden couldn’t do that for five minutes,” the speaker at first deflected when the anchor tried to make the case the storytelling was akin to President Joe Biden’s concerning cognitive abilities.

While Johnson tried to steer the conversation to the substantive issues of the election, Tapper held fast to talking about the late golfer’s genitalia. “I’m sure that you think that a policy debate would be better than a personality debate, but if President Biden had gone on stage and spoke about the size of a pro golfer’s penis, I think you would be on this show right now saying you were shocked and appalled, and you would suggest it was evidence of his cognitive decline.”

“Why is he talking about Arnold Palmer’s penis in front of Pennsylvania voters?” the host went on to ask prompting his guest to respond, “Jake, you seem to like that line a lot.”

“Let me just say something, I don’t want to be talking about this. Donald Trump is out there saying it,” insisted Tapper as he focused on a passing remark from an hour-and-a-half speech.

Rather than go on to discuss any of the points from the rally, the anchor pivoted once more to spend his remaining time questioning Johnson by advancing the narrative that Trump had called for use of the military against his political opponents.

While the Louisiana lawmaker did his best to hold back his laugh when Tapper repeatedly brought up the issue, social media users had no problem making light of the anchor’s line of questioning.
