As former President Donald Trump continues to work to appeal to working-class voters by actually addressing their concerns, Vice President Kamala Harris meanwhile continues to try to court them by touting her connections to the rich and powerful.

Case in point: The vice president is expected to hold two campaign events this Saturday, each with a superstar celebrity by her side — twerking singer Lizzo in Detroit, and rapper Usher in Atlanta:

Critics believe this is a desperate, last-minute attempt by Harris to drum up support from minorities, who, as the polls have shown, have been leaning more and more heavily toward Trump.

“Tell us you’re struggling with the black vote without telling us you’re struggling with the black vote,” one critic tweeted.

It doesn’t help that both Lizzo and Usher are very controversial figures.

Lizzo, a Grammy Award winner, has been dogged by controversy over claims by former dancers that she forced them to engage in sexually demeaning behavior, including pressuring them to eat a banana out of a stripper’s vagina at a live sex show.

The Democrats last recruited her help in March, when she appeared at a fundraiser for President Joe Biden’s then-presidential campaign. Her appearance there prompted criticism from Ron Zambrano, the attorney representing the former dancers.

“It’s shameful that Lizzo would be chosen to headline an event like this amid such egregious allegations,” he told NewsNation at the time. “Without getting into the politics, I can’t imagine why anyone would want Lizzo representing them in any way, given her reprehensible behavior. It’s just a terrible look.”

But that, of course, is Democrats for you.

Usher, meanwhile, has been dogged by controversy over his connection to music mogul Sean P. Diddy, who’s currently behind bars on account of a slew of charges, including sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, obstruction of justice, and more.

Plus, as the mentor of then-underage singer Justin Bieber, Usher reportedly introduced him to Diddy, according to reports.

Lizzo for her part has been an avid Harris fan since day one. In an Instagram video posted in July, she defended Harris from allegations that she’s done absolutely nothing as vice president.

“For everyone saying that Kamala Harris didn’t do anything when she was VP, please, for $5,000, do not use Google [and] tell me what any vice president has ever done during their term that was notable that you noticed,” Lizzo said. “The vice president’s job is to take a back seat and support while the president does everything that’s forward-facing.”

“It’s funny because when Joe Biden was VP, the only things I really remember him doing was making cool videos with Barack, but when he ran for president, I didn’t hear that same, ‘He didn’t do anything when he was VP’ from people. So I wonder why y’all are saying it now,” she added.
