During his town hall with all-female voters, former President Donald Trump acknowledged the problems faced by so many parents today.

The setting gave the women some time to discuss their questions as mothers, as women, and as Americans. Naturally, one of the queries that came up was how the former president planned to help out families with children, who are struggling with the rising costs of everything.

Rachel Shipskie revealed to Trump that her child tax credit had “decreased by almost 80%” and was denied assistance after an accident due to her income.

“My child tax credit has decreased by almost 80%,” she said.

“Daycare, for the lowest amount, is roughly $1,400 a month for one child here [in Georgia]. Last year, I had broken my neck, and I tried applying for any kind of assistance and was denied because I did not make less than $700 a month, so I could not afford daycare. I obviously was having to go through physical therapy and [had] a lot of issues, and I’m still having issues to this day,” Shipskie continued.

“What kind of realistic changes do you think you can provide [for] single parents, married parents, any kind of parent to just simply afford children in today’s world with the way things are right now?”

Responding to her plea, Trump had a story of his own.

“You’ve never heard of Ivanka, right? Ivanka? My daughter drove me crazy on this,” he said, referring to his daughter Ivanka Trump, who is the mother of three children.

“I gave you the largest tax cuts in the history of our country. Larger than the Reagan cuts. My daughter, Ivanka, she said, ‘Dad, we have to do… child tax credits.’ She was driving me crazy. Then I did it, and I got it just about done. [She said] ‘Dad, you’ve got to double it up.’ It was actually more complicated than the entire bill, but I got it done,” he recounted.

“We’re going to readjust things [taxes] so that it’s fair to everybody, because it’s really not fair to everybody,” he vowed. “It’s unfair to some people, and we’re not going to have that. But she [Ivanka] was the one that got it started. Those were our credits. Those were not the Democrats’ credits.”

The issue was also discussed in August when Republican Vice Presidential nominee J.D. Vance mentioned that there could be increases in the child tax credit from its current $2,000 to $5,000.

Days later, Vice President Kamala Harris released a plan of her own, which included “providing a $6,000 tax credit for parents of newborns. Families would receive the payment during their child’s first year” according to Fox News.

“That is a vital, vital year of critical development of a child,” Harris said. “And the cost can really add up, especially for young parents who need to buy diapers and clothes and a car seat and so much else.”
