A social media campaign boasting of “Kamala’s Wins” could be at a major loss after a report detailed the founder’s job placement that smacked of another Hatch Act violation.

As the torch of leadership wasn’t so much passed as it was wrenched away from President Joe Biden by Vice President Kamala Harris, so too was the reliance on social media influencers to propagandize on her behalf. This included the brand of “Biden’s Wins” to “Kamala’s Wins” which, according to The Daily Wire, was founded by an Ohio State University graduate hired by the White House.

Nearing 800,000 followers belong to the account “Keeping Score Kamala Harris’ wins” which was started in Jan. 2022 by Ethan Wolf who, after making an impression on then-Chief of Staff Ron Klain, ultimately found himself hired by the U.S. Department of Commerce in the International Trade Administration.

According to disclosure forms, his role as a communications specialist starting in June 2023 had him earning a $94,000 annual salary from U.S. taxpayers while posts geared toward promoting the Democratic Party’s nominee for president continued to appear on accounts Wolf created.

This included content gaslighting about inflation and crime statistics while also peddling debunked talking points about former President Donald Trump involving Project 2025 and remarks taken out of context.

“All Department of Commerce employees are subject to the Hatch Act, which is the law that governs political activities for federal employees,” a spokesperson for the Commerce Department told The Daily Wire, neither denying nor acknowledging a potential violation from the social media influencer who had previously worked as deputy political director for Illinois Rep. Brad Schneider (D) while, as Politico detailed, White House staff had privately contacted Wolf with encouragement.

Concerns raised about potential Hatch Act violations, the prohibition of federal employees taking part in political activities while in a federal building or on duty, weren’t new for the administration as Klain was said to have violated the act in May 2022.

So too were Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra and White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, in April and June 2023 respectively, in addition to former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki earning a warning about a violation in 2021.

On May 20, 2024, the Office of Special Counsel released an advisory opinion detailing that they would no longer refer violations to the president, but instead, those cases would be brought to the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board.

Wolf formed Democratic Wins Media LLC, which included accounts promoting former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Democrats in general which, in June 2023, shared a campaign video of Michigan House candidate Shadia Martini two days prior to being paid $2,000 by her campaign.

Meanwhile, as The Daily Wire noted that Wolf shared political content from his personal X account during business hours as well, Harris-Walz campaign spokesperson Sarafina Chitika asserted to PolitiFact that the “Kamala’s Wins” account is not affiliated with the campaign.
