Vice President Kamala Harris’ last ditch demographic pitch left one Detroit pastor slamming her virtue signaling: “Black men are not political infants.”

As Election Day nears within three weeks, the Democrat Party’s replacement nominee’s “joy” appeared to fizzle in place of panic as decisions increasingly added up to damage control. This included an attempt to counter former President Donald Trump’s considerable effort to make inroads with the black community with a late promise of handouts that left Detroit Pastor Lorenzo Sewell asserting, “I have never been so offended in my life.”
The faith leader from Michigan, who’d spoken at the Republican National Convention, joined “Fox & Friends” co-host Lawrence Jones Tuesday with a reaction to Harris’ appearance on “The Shade Room” and ahead of an event with Charlamagne tha God.
After bullet points of the “Opportunity Agenda for Black Men” were presented, including a promise of 1 million in fully forgivable loans to entrepreneurs and a clip of Harris claiming she didn’t take the vote of black men for granted, her campaign behavior set Sewell off, “I have never been so offended in my life.”
“She’s bringing a man here who is Charlamagne, a false god, to a community that has 4,500 churches, all people of faith. We are extremely offended that she’s bringing a podcaster here to talk to black men about politics. She brought a retired athlete to Flint who is failing — Magic Johnson — and she brought Oprah to Oakland Country as if she understands the plight and the playing of people that look like me,” he continued.
“We will not allow virtue signaling. We will not allow identity politics. Black men are not political infants,” the pastor made clear. “We know exactly what’s happening with the Democratic Party. We know that they’ve exploited us for over six decades, and we are saying, just like Moses said to Pharaoh, ‘Let my people go.’”
By contrast, in June when Trump participated in a community roundtable at the 180 Church, Sewell, while wearing a t-shirt that read, “MAKE BLACK AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” he expressed gratitude to the president for his sincere outreach, “President Trump, I’m so humbled that you would be here. President Obama never came to the hood, so to speak, right? President Joe Biden, he went to the big NAACP dinner but he never came to the hood. So, thank you.”
As he went on praising the GOP leader to Jones, including actions Trump had taken while in office, not just on the campaign trail, Sewell contended of Harris’ behavior, “She continues to think that she can entertain her way to the black vote. We’re offended, and we want her to be willing to actually bring real solutions to the complex problems that we’re facing in urban America.”
Woes for the vice president among black voters were evident in the results of the latest New York Times/Siena College poll that found her down at 78% support compared to 90% of Democrats in 2020 and 92% in 2016. When specifically looking at black men, Harris only drew 70% support compared to then-former Vice President Joe Biden earning 85% support in 2020.
