Former President Donald Trump pledged to hire 10,000 new Border Patrol agents if he is elected and hopes to increase their salaries.

The Republican presidential nominee revealed his bold promises during a rally in Prescott Valley, Arizona, on Sunday as the agents’ union, the National Border Patrol Council, once again threw their support behind him.

Trump vowed that if he wins on Election Day, “The migrant invasion ends and the restoration of our country begins.”

In addition to hiring thousands of additional agents under his new administration, the former president said, “If I win, I will be asking Congress to immediately approve a 10 percent raise for all agents, and a $10,000 dollar retention and signing bonus.”

“This will ensure that we can hire and keep the Border Patrol agents that we need to keep. And we can also bring in a lot of new ones, really great ones,” he told the crowd at the Findlay Toyota Center.

“We are now known throughout the world as an occupied country,” Trump said.

“These gentlemen will un-occupy us very quickly,” he added, referring to the Border Patrol agents as the crowd cheered. “I make this pledge, November 5th, 2024 will be liberation day in America.”

During the rally, the official union of the U.S. Border Patrol announced its endorsement of the GOP nominee.

“It’s a great honor,” Trump said. “They said it was unanimous. Thousands of people.”

“If we allow border czar Harris to win this election, every city, every community in this great country is going to go to hell,” Paul Perez, the president of the National Border Patrol Council, told the rally crowd.

“The untold millions of people unvetted, who she has allowed into this country that are committing murders, rapes, robberies, burglaries, and every other crime will continue to put our country in peril,” Perez added.

“Only one man can fix that. That is Donald J. Trump,” Perez said. “He has always stood with the men and women who protect this border, who put their lives on the line for the country.”

“On behalf of the 16,000 men and women represented by the National Border Patrol Council, we strongly support and endorse Donald J. Trump for President of the United States,” he declared.

In a report issued last year by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Inspector General, 88 percent of Border Patrol stations suffered from understaffing. The report noted that ” the details and overtime have negatively impacted the health and morale of law enforcement personnel, who feel overworked and unable to perform their primary law enforcement duties.”

“Approximately one in four CBP and ICE survey respondents indicated they plan to leave within the next year,” the 2023 report indicated. “With the rising number of migrant encounters along the border, CBP and ICE could see higher turnover rates and earlier retirements among law enforcement officers, which could in turn worsen the staffing challenges at the Southwest border.”
