Ahead of the Ides of October, Vice President Kamala Harris’ Caesarian aspirations had many believing Dark Brandon had turned into Joe Brutus.

Blurring the lines between Shakespearean comedy and tragedy, the vice president’s alleged coup against President Joe Biden may have been enough to snag her the nomination, but the lame duck incumbent wasn’t doing her any favors on the campaign trail.

Between undermining a political attack against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) to the optics of donning the hat of a supporter to former President Donald Trump, a growing consensus was developing around the notion that Biden was putting his own legacy ahead of the future of the Democratic Party.

“Biden is intentionally enacting revenge on Kamala for knifing him in the back,” said Republican political strategist and advisory board member for Trump’s campaign Jason Meister to the New York Post.

“He never liked her. The happiest he’s looked in four years was when he put a red [Trump 2024] hat on after speaking with Shanksville [Pennsylvania] firefighters [last month] on 9/11,” added Meister. “He should just come out and endorse Trump.”

Similarly, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) had suggested to Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy, “My personal hunch is that Jill and Joe have decided that their place in history will look bigger if he’s the only person ever to defeat Trump. And I suspect also, there’s a certain resentment that people said he couldn’t campaign and look how badly she’s campaigning — and I think it’s sorta like payback time.”

Republicans weren’t alone in drawing that conclusion as Democratic strategist Hank Sheinkopf had told the Post, “It would be absolutely ridiculous to assume that he has no resentment over how he was treated or how, frankly, he was forced out in what some would describe as a coup.”

“Why hasn’t he appeared in places where he could do some good, like parts of Pennsylvania and states that the president has buoyed during his term? Nobody wants to give up being president of the United States — it’s the one job you don’t want to leave,” he added.

Meanwhile, as Biden’s recent behavior had some suggesting he sought to end his political career on a bipartisan note, Trump was able to capitalize on the out-of-step Democratic Party on the campaign trail as he told supporters during his Saturday rally in Coachella, California, “They actually threw him out of office. And I’m convinced that he likes me a little bit more — this much more — than he likes her.”

Likewise, businessman, former White House hopeful and surrogate Vivek Ramaswamy had suggested during a rally in Scranton, Pennsylvania, “Somewhere deep down inside, in a place that he doesn’t want to admit, I think maybe Joe Biden is actually rooting for it,” referring to the potential of the GOP scoring an electoral victory in the incumbent’s hometown.

“I think it’s clear that Joe is still bruised by what happened,” Ramaswamy added in a comment to the Post. “I don’t think he would have won [a second term], but in his views, and those of his family, they probably think that they were robbed of it.”

Caroline Sunshine, spokeswoman for the Trump campaign, suggested, “Harris doesn’t need help sabotaging her campaign because she does that herself every time she speaks without a teleprompter, [but] it’s important to remember there is absolutely no daylight between President Biden and Kamala Harris on policy.”

“Kamala Harris has said herself she wouldn’t do a single thing differently these last four years,” she added, “and our campaign will be reminding voters of this fact every day between now and Nov. 5.”

Damage control over the optics found White House spokesman Andrew Bates reminding that Biden had endorsed Harris after ending his re-election and bid, “He believes fiercely in an agenda that will move us into the future, away from unhinged divisiveness and extreme policies the country can’t afford to go back to, like MAGAnomics and a national abortion ban.”
