Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz bumbled his way through a hostile interview with Fox News on Sunday.

The move marked a rare venture into conservative media for Kamala Harris’ running mate, with the Democratic ticket having largely stayed away from journalistic scrutiny throughout their two-and-a-half-month campaign.

Faced with the prospect of heightened coverage of Donald Trump’s historic rally in Butler, PA, Walz took on Fox News Sunday host Shannon Bream. It wasn’t long before clips of the interview spread widely online, including one on the topic of abortion.

The Minnesota Gov.’s jurisdiction has some of the most liberal abortion laws in the United States, and has no limitation on when an abortion can take place.

“You signed a bill that makes it legal through all nine months [of pregnancy]. Is that a position you think Democrats should advocate for nationally?” Bream quizzed the vice presidential nominee.

“Look, the Vice President and I have been clear, the restoration of Roe v. Wade is what we’re asking for,” Walz responded.

Bream replied that the law “goes far beyond Roe v. Wade, leaving a scrambled Walz to say, “The law is very clear. It does not change that. That has been debunked on every occasion.”

Watch for yourself:

Many on social media questioned the decision to send Walz onto the conservative outlet.

Several commenters felt it was refreshing to see a journalist challenge the Democratic ticket on live television.
