U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz revealed Friday that he’s been in touch with several FEMA whistleblowers who’ve complained about the agency’s mishandling of its Hurricane Helene relief efforts.

Gaetz revealed this in a scathing letter addressed to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“My office has been in contact with whistleblowers in numerous emergency-management functions at the federal, state, and local levels, and they all point to the same critical mismanagement issues,” the letter reads. “FEMA has wasted taxpayer funds, misappropriated funds, and left other federal, state, and local responders without deployment orders on the ground.”

“As reported and further confirmed by my office, hundreds, if not thousands of service members were deployed by the Department of Defense to North Carolina and have sat idle, waiting for FEMA. We have confirmed FEMA employees deployed, on the clock, awaiting orders in hotels. FEMA pre-disaster aid was withheld, exacerbating the emergency. It is also public that NGOs have purchased airline tickets for migrants through the use of FEMA funds,” the letter continues.

The letter was sent two days after Mayorkas announced that FEMA lacks the funding to last through the remainder of the current hurricane season.

“We are meeting the immediate needs with the money that we have,” Mayorkas said, referencing FEMA’s response to Hurricane Helene. “We are expecting another hurricane hitting. We do not have the funds. FEMA does not have the funds to make it through the season.”

It’s believed this lack of funding exists because FEMA already spent boatloads of its allocated money taking care of illegal aliens.

As previously reported, FEMA allocated $364 million in 2023 and $650 million in 2024 to the Shelter and Services Program (SSP) specifically to provide “humanitarian services” to illegal aliens.

“Through the SSP, DHS directly supports communities that are providing critical support such as food, shelter, clothing, acute medical care, and transportation to noncitizens recently released from DHS custody and awaiting their immigration court proceedings,” the Department of Homeland Security admitted in an August news brief.

Former President Donald Trump addressed this during a Thursday rally in Michigan.

“If you want to see how sick and distorted Kamala Harris’ priorities are, just consider FEMA,” he said. “There’s nobody that’s handled a hurricane or storm worse than what they’re doing right now.”

“Kamala spent all her FEMA money — billions of dollars — on housing for illegal migrants, many of whom should not be in your country, including $1 billion for gift cards for illegal aliens and putting them up in luxury hotels with a gift card to welcome them to America as our veterans are sleeping on the sidewalks below those hotels,” he added.

Dovetailing back to Gaetz’s letter, other whistleblowers have also emerged, albeit in an unofficial capacity — mainly online.

For example, in the video below, a volunteer revealed that FEMA has been using hotels to house its workers versus victims of Hurricane Helene:

The following whistleblower revealed the same thing:

Some whistleblowers have also accused FEMA of denying them aid and help.
