The New York Times has fallen so far that it’s hard to remember it was once considered the nation’s “newspaper of record” before it became a “woke” tabloid peddling leftist lies, Democrat propaganda, conspiracy theories, and politically motivated hit jobs.

Choosing not to focus on any serious issues for voters to consider less than five weeks before the most consequential election in the nation’s history, the intrepid scandal-mongers at the NYT have unearthed a nearly two-decade-old picture of Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) in “blackface” at a Halloween party when he was in college.

In the 2006 image that the paper seemingly deems to be more important than the economy, the illegal alien invasion, FEMA hurricane disaster funding, and the growing threat of WWIII, the young Republican is seen dressed up as his idol Michael Jackson during the Manhattan College Halloween social gathering with his face slightly darkened to better resemble the “King of Pop” who was black.

“Mr. Lawler, a rising Republican standout from the Hudson Valley, has frequently described himself as an ardent Jackson fan. But the photos are the first known instance of Mr. Lawler, who is white, dressing as the Black musician by wearing blackface, a practice that has long been considered racist,” according to the Times.

“The images may come into play in Mr. Lawler’s fight for re-election this fall against Mondaire Jones, a Black former congressman, in a suburban swing seat. The Republican is also eyeing a run for governor in 2026,” the paper writes, letting the cat out of the bag that they’re trying to kneecap him now before a potential gubernatorial run in two years.

In a sad testament to today’s through-the-looking-glass society, the congressman was pilloried over the Times’ indecent hit piece for the grave sin of dressing up in an innocent Halloween costume from back before the age of racial hysteria was ushered in by the cancerous presidency of Barack Obama and turned into a full-blown inquisition after the 2020 George Floyd race riots, with the Times and the rest of the media pouring gasoline on the fire.

Lawler did what every target of the left-wing mob does when accused of being a racist, he groveled and begged for forgiveness, the worst possible reaction because they will never be satisfied.

“When attempting to imitate Michael’s legendary dance moves at a college Halloween party eighteen years ago, the ugly practice of black face was the furthest thing from my mind,” the GOP lawmaker said in a statement. “Let me be clear, this is not that.”

“I am a student of history and for anyone who takes offense to the photo, I am sorry,” Lawler added. “All you can do is live and learn, and I appreciate everyone’s grace along the way.”

“With record inflation, high taxes, skyrocketing energy costs, surging crime, and a broken immigration system, now more than ever, we need to work together to address the challenges we are facing,” Rep. Lawler says on his website, focusing on real issues which explains why the Times decided he needed to be taken down a peg or two.
