A historic village located in Asheville, North Carolina, is under water due to the flooding caused by Hurricane Helene.

Biltmore Village is located in Asheville. Videos being shared on social media show trees, logs and even homes being swept away due to the flood.

Small businesses and other buildings were flattened by the storm as water levels reached several feet high.

“We knew the flooding was coming but we didn’t know it was going to be this catastrophic,” a witness told NBC News. “All of the loss and destruction is just heartbreaking.”

This storm has tremendously impacted the southeast. So far at least 53 people are confirmed dead as a result of Helene and about three million customers are without power in North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Virginia.

“Search and rescue operations remain underway across Western North Carolina and supplies are being brought into the region by air,” North Carolina Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper wrote on the social media platform, X.
