U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg got a fact-filled thumping after making the absurd assertion that “crime is down.”

The Democrat former mayor of South Bend, Indiana dropped his hot take on social media Tuesday, asserting on X that “FBI data” is “corroborated by other, apples-to-apples law enforcement studies.”

“Crime is down,” he posted simply on Tuesday afternoon before getting slammed for his “disinformation.”

Later in the day, Buttigieg posted that it’s “just politics” when others deny the FBI stats. He linked to an Axios report from August that claimed violent crime was down in some U.S. cities. Of course, the report noted that the analysis culled from the Major Cities Chiefs Association preliminary data did not include numbers from the nation’s largest city, New York.

In addition to the brutal responses on X, the Trump War Room gave the Transportation Secretary a dose of reality.

“Wrong again, Petey,” the post from the 2024 Trump campaign read.

Buttigieg was reminded that the data did not include some of the nation’s largest cities where many crimes do not even get reported.

“A much more accurate picture comes from the DOJ’s National Crime Victimization Survey, which shows crime rates are WAY UP,” the post noted.

Citing data from the Biden administration’s Bureau of Justice Statistics, a DOJ agency, the War Room account laid out the stunning numbers in a series of “facts.”

“Violent crime is up 37% between 2020 and last year. Rape is up 42%, robbery is up 63%, assault is up 34%, violent crime (excluding simple assault) is up 55%, domestic violence is up 32%, stranger violence is up 61%, violent crime (with an injury) is up 10%, violent crime (with a weapon) is up 56%, and motor vehicle theft is up 42%,” the post read.

“The total number of violent crimes reported last year is higher than any year under President Trump,” the post noted, asserting that Vice President Kamala Harris “has presided over three of the four most murderous years in the last quarter century.”

“Hope that helps, @PeteButtigieg,” the Trump War Room account concluded.

The post was applauded on X where users agreed with the numbers and the dressdown of Buttigieg.

Buttigieg’s own posts were fact-checked and mocked by X users.
