For over 60 days, a Californian couple fretted about their cat, Rayne Beau (“Rainbow,” get it? ), who they had taken to Yellowstone National Park on vacation.

The couple from Salinas routinely travels with their two cats, but usually only for weekend getaways:

This trip to Yellowstone was the first time Benny and Susanne Anguiano had taken a longer camping trip with their feline companions, but apparently Rayne Beau was too eager to explore Yellowstone.

Susanne said she had just put his leash on and opened their truck door when Rayne Beau yeeted himself out of the vehicle. The leash pulled and the cat’s collar broke.

He then did what cats usually do when they get loose – he sprinted for cover (in this case, woods filled with wolves, bison, and bears).

Benny and Susanne spent the rest of the trip looking for their feline escape artist.

They even laid out his favorite treats and toys in the hopes that he would find his way home, but by the end of their trip, they thought they might never see him again.

‘We had to leave without him,’ said Susanne Anguiano. ‘That was the hardest day because I felt like I was abandoning him.’

Months later, they got a call from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Roseville, California, which had found their contact info on the implanted microchip of a rescued cat.

Rayne Beau had been found almost 900 miles from Yellowstone.

But Rayne Beau had paid a toll for his long trek across the country, losing over 40% of his bodyweight.

‘He was really depleted,’ said Susanne. ‘He probably didn’t have a lot of energy to even go further.’

Now he’s home safe.

Rayne Beau is probably plotting his next escape

The couple is still curious about how the cat managed to travel so far without assistance, and they’d love to thank anyone who helped him home.

They hope someone will see their story and recognize Rayne Beau.

‘Hey, I remember that cat, and like we saw it here, we saw it there or even they took it in,’ said Benny.

My money’s on these two:
