During an appearance on “The View” this Thursday, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton shockingly had something nice to say about former first lady Melania Trump.

Clinton recalled seeing Mrs. Trump at the 2023 funeral of former first lady Rosalynn Carter.

“I saw Laura Bush — who is just absolutely delightful — talking with Melania Trump, and none of us knew that she was going to be there,” she said. “And Michelle [Obama] and Jill Biden and I were, like, wow, nobody told us.”

“But immediately, you know, all of our training, our good manners, everybody immediately went up, and Michelle gave her one of her hugs, and even Jill said how glad she was to see her, and I said hello to her, and I write about how I thought it was a very positive thing for her to show up,” she added.

“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin responded by suggesting it must have been “scary” for Trump to be there.

“I think it was a little scary,” Clinton replied. “I say she looks like the kid on the outside of the birthday party, like, am I going to be accepted? Do I belong here?”

According to Fox News, Clinton also praised Trump’s appearance at the funeral in her just recently released memoir, “Something Lost, Something Gained.”

“Melania had a look on her face – very smiley but uncertain – that reminded me of the little kid at the birthday party who doesn’t know anyone and is waiting at the edge of the circle, hoping people are going to be nice,” she wrote. “I can appreciate how awkward it must have been.”

In the book, Clinton also reportedly defended Trump’s decision to wear a grey suit — versus a traditional black one — to the funeral.

“Let’s get real. The Victorian-era tradition of donning black for funerals has gone the way of the edict against wearing white after Labor Day,” she wrote, according to USA Today. “Jason Carter wore a gray suit to deliver a tribute to his ‘cool grandma.’ President Biden was in blue. As far as I can tell, neither of them got any flak for it.”

But in the book, Clinton also reportedly took some shots at Trump over her husband, former President Donald Trump.

“On a gut level, I have never believed that a wife bears responsibility for the actions of her husband,” she wrote. “But did she aid and abet her husband’s worst instincts? Was she quietly complicit in his bigotry and hate-mongering?”

During Clinton’s appearance on “The View,” she also took direct shots at the former president.

“We now have a clear understanding of who Trump is,” she said. “He has a very fragile ego that needs constant reinforcement. People have to tell him how great he is, and he has to convince himself of his greatness. He surrounds himself with people who are always providing him with emotional support.”

In her book, meanwhile, she also wrote about her initial response to President Joe Biden dropping out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsing his vice president, Kamala Harris.

“When Bill and I heard the news that Biden was withdrawing and endorsing Kamala, we drafted a joint statement saluting him and endorsing her,” she wrote, according to an excerpt published in The Guardian. “She is talented, experienced and ready to be president, so it was an easy decision.”

“After our statement went public, Kamala called us. She was remarkably calm for someone who had just been thrown into the deep end of a bottomless pool. She told us she wanted to earn the nomination. ‘I’m going to need your help,’ she said. ‘We’ll do whatever you need,’ I told her. Bill and I were both ready to do everything we could to help get her elected,” Clinton added.

She also addressed the accusation that she was jealous of Harris.

“Some people have asked how I feel about the prospect of another woman being poised to achieve the breakthrough I didn’t,” she wrote. “If I’m being honest, in the years after 2016, I also wondered how I would feel if another woman ever took the torch, that I had carried so far, and ran on with it. Would some little voice deep down inside whisper: ‘That should have been me’?”

“Now I know the answer. After I got off the phone with the vice-president, I looked at Bill with a huge smile and said: “This is exciting.” I felt promise. I felt possibility. It was exhilarating,” she added.
