As details continue to emerge about the man accused of attempting to shoot former president Donald Trump, one of the more curious developments involves Ryan Routh’s wife Kathleen Shaffer and her work.

During questioning yesterday by Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Homeland Security Investigations Executive Associate Director Chief Katrina W. Berger admitted that Routh had been flagged as suspicious by Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) last year when he returned to the U.S. from Ukraine and was referred to Homeland Security as a suspect.

Gaetz then read from the memo from CBP which stated, in part:

…the suspect is a US citizen who traveled to Kiev, Ukraine, for three months to help recruit soldiers from Afghanistan, Moldova, and Taiwan, to fight in the Ukrainian war against Russia. Subject stated he does not get paid for his recruiting efforts, and all his work for the Ukrainian government is strictly volunteer work. Subject stated that he obtains money from his wife to help fund his trips to Ukraine.

While Homeland Security did not find Routh suspicious enough to investigate, the information about Routh getting his funding from his wife Kathleen Shaffer has raised a whole new line of questions. […]
