Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday urged Republicans not to support a continuing budget resolution without also approving the SAVE Act, an election security measure requiring proof of citizenship to vote.

“If Republicans don’t get the SAVE Act, and every ounce of it, they should not agree to a Continuing Resolution in any way, shape, or form,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Democrats are registering Illegal Voters by the TENS OF THOUSANDS, as we speak – They will be voting in the 2024 Presidential Election, and they shouldn’t be allowed to.”

“Only American Citizens should be voting in our Most Important Election in History, or any Election!” he continued. “A Vote must happen BEFORE the Election, not AFTER the Election when it is too late. BE SMART, REPUBLICANS, YOU’VE BEEN PUSHED AROUND LONG ENOUGH BY THE DEMOCRATS. DON’T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN. Remember, this is Biden/Harris’ fault, not yours!”

The House is expected to vote on a continuing resolution with the SAVE Act attached on Wednesday evening, though several Republicans have announced their opposition to the plan and it is not expected to pass.

Conservative stalwarts such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., have warned that the Senate would not approve a combined bill.

“This is classic bait and switch that will enrage the base, only one month before the election, when they find out they have been tricked and let down again,” she wrote in a social media post. “The only way to make the SAVE Act a law would be to refuse to pass a CR until the Senate agrees to pass the SAVE Act and Biden agrees to sign it into law.”
