The office of Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C.,  says the congressman is in “good spirits” and recovering after having collapsed at an event in Washington, D.C., earlier this week.

“Update: While Congressman Wilson continues to be evaluated by medical staff, he is in good spirits, improving, and speaking with family,” read a statement from the congressman’s account posted Thursday on his official account on the social media platform X

Wilson was hospitalized on Tuesday evening after he collapsed at the event in which he showed “stroke-like symptoms,” according to the New York Post.

However, there has been no official statement about what caused him to collapse.

Wilson represents the second district of South Carolina and has since 2001.

Wilson infamously yelled, “You lie” during former President Barack Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress in 2009.
