An alleged moving violation outside Hard Rock Stadium saw the Miami Dolphins star wide receiver in handcuffs hours before the team’s season opener.

While fans and fantasy league gamers alike wondered whether or not Tyreek Hill would take the field during Sunday’s opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, his agent was left wondering “how things escalated,” after the player was seen lying prone with handcuffs in the street beside his sports car.

Video shared by ESPN’s Adam Schefter captured a portion of the detainment as four law enforcement officers could be seen interacting with the player. While Schefter referred to the clip as the arrest of Hill, he later went on to correct the record that the footballer was merely detained.

Sources went on to tell ESPN’S Jeff Darlington that the wide receiver had been pulled over for reckless driving and that he was cited for the moving violation before ultimately being released when the situation had deescalated following a verbal altercation with authorities.

“It’s a heartbreaking situation. Obviously, I love Tyreek, I hated to see him in the situation he was in with the police,” said Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus in an interview with Darlington.

After confirming that the player would be in Sunday afternoon’s game, he went on to explain, “Number one, he’s okay. Number two, he’s gonna play. Number three, apparently he got a ticket for a moving violation entering the stadium. How things escalated to the situation that they were in, in handcuffs and being held on the ground with police is mind-boggling to me. I’m deeply concerned by that; very troubled.”

As Rosenhaus affirmed there would be an investigation of the interaction with the police, ESPN aired a portion of a video that, at greater length, showed the physicality of the detainment once Hill was escorted away from traffic.

“Mentally, he was very distraught about what happened. Tyreek has told me over and over he’s a big supporter of police. He was telling the police there, I wanna be a police officer in the future,” claimed the agent of the player who’d previously gone on record stating he wanted to be a pornstar after retiring from football.

The location of the detainment offered opportunity for other players to stop in support of Hill and the agent confirmed that defensive tackle Calais Campbell and tight end Jonnu Smith had pulled over.

In their own statement, the Miami Dolphins posted to social media, “This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police. He has since been released. Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived to the stadium and will be available for today’s game.”
