It’s cliche, but Republicans do need to go into interviews not as if they’re being interviewed but as if they’re being debated (and/or attacked) by the Kamala Harris campaign. Journalismers have made it clear they’ve chosen their side (again) even if they claim otherwise. Exhibit Q is Sen. Tom Cotton and ABC News hack Jon Karl. Pay attention to what Cotton does here.

First, some back story. You’re not supposed to remember this, but Kamala Harris ran for president four years ago. You’re also not supposed to remember that she is the current vice president and has been for four years. You’re only supposed to believe she has changed her opinion on anything because a staffer says so on background.

There wasn’t a batsh*t crazy progressive policy Kamala Harris did not wrap herself in. Like, for example, eliminating private health insurance. This wasn’t something a GOP tracker caught her saying off the cuff. This is something she said during a CNN town hall as a presidential candidate.

Sen. Cotton brought it up yesterday on ABC News This Week, where Karl pushed back on behalf of the Harris campaign. “She doesn’t believe these things” anymore, cried the journalisming hack. After all, they just had a convention where Harris and the Democrats talked about nothing. That’s their platform now… nothing. Claiming anything else is misinformation according to “independent” “fact” checkers.

Karl repeated over and over again that it was “clear” that Harris didn’t “believe” anything she believed. Cotton wouldn’t let him get away with it.

We’re sensing a pattern with Jon Karl.

All other Republicans need to take notes because it’s going to be the same with every other journalismer. Nothing Kamala Harris said when she ran for president or did while she was vice president counts. All that matters is ‘vibes” and “joy.” If Republicans attempt to bring up her record or anything on policy, they should expect to be shouted down and have the topic change.

Do what Tom Cotton did. Don’t let it happen.
