A manhunt is currently underway in Arizona as authorities search for Ronald Lee Syvrud, a 66-year-old suspect who has allegedly made threats to kill former President Donald Trump. The threat was discovered ahead of a rally that Trump scheduled to attend Thursday in Arizona as part of his ongoing campaign efforts for the upcoming November election.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office has identified Syvrud as the prime suspect and is actively searching for him. Syvrud has a criminal history, with outstanding warrants in both Wisconsin and Arizona. These include charges related to DUI, failure to appear for DUI, hit-and-run, and a felony failure to register as a sex offender. In addition, Syvrud has an absconder hold placed on him for failing to register as a sex offender, a serious offense that adds urgency to the ongoing manhunt.

Syvrud is also listed on the Wisconsin Department of Corrections sex offender registry for a conviction of second-degree sexual assault of a child, and his registered address is in Arizona. The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook, stating that Syvrud is being sought “as an investigative lead for threats to kill a presidential candidate.” Although they did not initially specify which candidate, Fox News Digital later confirmed that the target of the threats is former President Trump.

This incident follows a recent assassination attempt on Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last month. Despite the serious nature of these threats, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office clarified that they have found no known ties between Syvrud and Pennsylvania. Local, state, and federal agencies are collaborating to locate and apprehend Syvrud as the investigation unfolds.

In response to the escalating threats, former President Trump has continued his campaign while taking increased security precautions. On Wednesday, he held his first outdoor rally since the assassination attempt, delivering a speech from behind a wall of bulletproof glass at a podium in Asheboro, North Carolina.

Trump’s upcoming visit to Cochise County, Arizona, on Thursday is part of his broader campaign tour across key battleground states. The U.S. Secret Service is closely monitoring the situation and is actively tracking the manhunt for Syvrud in Arizona. However, they have referred all inquiries about the case, including any potential links to the Butler incident, to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office for further comments.
