In June, former President Donald Trump fired up a rally crowd in Las Vegas when he pledged to support legislation that would exempt taxes on tips—a huge benefit to the entertainment capital’s legions of service and hospitality industry workers and millions more Americans nationwide.

At a Vegas rally of her own last week, Vice President Kamala Harris adopted the same position, but that is one of the most disingenuous things she has said thus far in her campaign, given that she is single-handedly responsible for enacting legislation that not only dramatically expands the number of IRS agents, but specifically so they can go after Americans who rely heavily on tips for their incomes.

Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany, who served as press secretary under Trump during his term, pointed out this huge discrepancy during a show segment this week after playing a clip of ABC News’ Jonathan Karl noting Harris’ position, along with another featuring White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre claiming that now President Biden supports it too.

“Here’s a talking point mysteriously listening from KJP’s binder. Look at that: Kamala casts a tie-breaking vote to expand IRS oversight on taxing tips, and President Biden signed it into law. But that’s not all. Her administration added hordes of IRS workers to go after waiters and waitresses, and meanwhile, Trump just released his 20 promises to America; I wonder how long it will take Kamala to steal some of those? So what is she doing this? J.D. Vance sums it up perfectly. Kamala pretends to be a different person to different people,” McEnany said before playing a clip of Trump’s running mate describing Harris’ actions.

“President Trump is right that she’s is a chameleon. She pretends to be one thing in front of one audience and she pretends to be something different in front of another audience,” he said in the clip.

“Look, Dana, she’s not running a political campaign. She’s running a movie,” Vance continued. “She only speaks to voters behind a teleprompter. Everything is scripted. She doesn’t have her policy positions out there. She hasn’t answered why she wanted to ban fracking, but now she doesn’t. She wanted to defund police, but now she doesn’t. She wanted to open the border, but now she doesn’t. She should have to answer why she presents a different set of policies to one audience and a different set of policies to another audience and I think that’s what President Trump is getting at. This is a fundamentally fake person. She’s different depending on who she’s in front of.”

Trump’s campaign has responded to a statement from the White House stating that there is no “daylight” between President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, meaning the two share the same policy goals and objectives.

The Trump campaign directed its social media comment to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, adding that her remark proves that “Kamala owns the border crisis,” among other policies that have made it more difficult for Americans to get ahead while the world has become more unstable.

“Thank you @PressSec for confirming: there is ‘no daylight’ between Kamala and Joe! Kamala owns the border crisis. Kamala owns inflation. Kamala owns the wars, chaos, and crime over the past 4 years,” Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt posted to X on Monday afternoon, showing a clip of Jean-Pierre.

The press secretary said on Monday during the White House press briefing that Biden and Harris have been “aligned” throughout the administration and that there’s no “daylight” between them.

“[Harris is] going to lay out her vision. But again, they’ve been aligned, you know, they’ve been aligned for the last three and a half years. There’s not been any daylight,” Jean Pierre said.
