The Taliban paraded around in abandoned U.S. Military vehicles on Wednesday to mark the three-year anniversary of its return to power in the wake of the Biden-Harris Admin’s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan in August of 2021.

From Newsweek:

Taliban Cabinet members took to the stage at Bagram to make speeches focused on the group’s achievements, including the strengthening of Islamic law and the establishment of a military framework designed to provide “peace and security.”

The Bagram parade was the largest and most assertive display since the Taliban regained control in August 2021, featuring a crowd of approximately 10,000 men, including top Taliban officials like Acting Defense Minister Mullah Yaqoob and Acting Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani.

Notably absent was the Taliban’s supreme leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada.

Foreign diplomats were reported to have attended, though their identities were not disclosed.

The parade also showcased military equipment left behind by U.S. and NATO forces, including helicopters, Humvees, and tanks.

Troops marched with an array of weaponry, and a motorcycle unit displayed the Taliban flag.

In Kabul, pickup trucks filled with men celebrated the takeover, some posing with rifles, while in Helmand province, men carried yellow canisters to symbolize explosives used in past conflicts.

Footage and pictures from the parade were shared widely on X.

Kamala Harris has confirmed in the past that she was the “last person in the room” with President Biden before he committed to the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan.

From WaPo:

Harris’s role behind the scenes in one of the most consequential and controversial episodes of Biden’s presidency shows how she hassought to position herself as a vice president deeply involved in key moments — even agreeing with an interviewerthat she was the “last personin the room” with Biden as he cemented his plans to pull out the troops and evacuate allies.

But it also suggests the limits of her ability — or willingness — to meaningfully alter Biden’s course on historic choices. She raised important questions about the Afghanistan withdrawal before the calamitous, 17-day evacuation from Kabul but did not push for any alternative policy, according to officials who attended meetings that included her and who provided new details about the matter to The Washington Post.
