Los Angeles officials not only stripped funding from their fire department but then funneled that money into “woke” nonsense, including a “Gay Men’s Chorus.”
As previously reported, this year Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass allocated $17 million less for the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).
Where did that $17 million go? Around $14,000 went to the “Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles,” according to an investigation by Fox News.
The chorus seeks to “create musical experiences that strengthen our role as a leader among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and performing arts organizations.”
Another $100,000 went to the formation of a “Midnight Stroll Transgender Cafe” to house homeless transgender people at night.
You can tell what politicians really care about by how they spend your tax dollars. @MayorOfLA Karen Bass earmarked hundreds of thousands of dollars for social justice art workers— the Gay Men’s chorus of Los Angeles — and the Midnight Stroll Transgender Cafe. Keeping the gay theme going, another $13,000 was spent to host “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Heritage Month Programs,” and $8,670 was appropriated for the ONE National Gay and Lesbian Archives.
Meanwhile, moving on to a racial theme, $100,000 was spent on Juneteenth celebrations, while $100,000 was set aside just for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) awards program.
“Los Angeles’ African American History Month, American Indian Heritage Month, Latino Heritage Month and Asian American History Month Programs were each allocated $13,000,” according to The Daily Caller, which ran its own investigation.
“The budget also appropriated $170,000 in total for ‘Social Justice Art-Worker Investments,’” the reporting continues.
Also, $190,000 was allocated to a homeless/HIV program that hands out sterile syringes to homeless drug addicts.
Bass, for her part, previously claimed that none of the important cuts made “would have impacted the situation that we were dealing with over the last couple of days.”
But LAFD chief Kristin Crowley claimed otherwise this Friday, telling local station KTTV that the budget cuts did, in fac,t make a difference.
Listen:
“My message is the fire department needs to be properly funded — it’s not,” she said. “Yes, it was cut and it did impact our ability to provide service. Any budget cut is going to impact our ability to provide service.”
She continued by noting that though the number of calls her team responds to has doubled since 2010, there are now fewer fire stations and firefighters than there were back then.
“This isn’t a new problem for us,” she said. “The fire department needs to be funded appropriately so that I can look any community member in the eye and say your LAFD’s got your back. None of us on the fire department are politicians. We’re public servants first. We took an oath to serve the public before ourselves and even before our families.”
“So with that, I want to focus on a path forward. I want to focus on what the LAFD needs, what I need as a fire chief and what our people need to do their jobs to make sure that we can save lives and that we can protect property to the greatest capacity. But we need to be funded appropriately. And that’s where my head is,” she added.
Crowley isn’t the only one to cry foul. Actress Sara Foster cried foul on Twitter/X this Friday, blasting Bass and other California officials over their misplaced priorities.
“We pay the highest taxes in California,” she wrote. “Our fire hydrants were empty. Our vegetation was overgrown, brush not cleared. Our reservoirs were emptied by our governor because tribal leaders wanted to save fish. Our fire department budget was cut by our mayor.”
“But thank god drug addicts are getting their drug kits. @MayorOfLA @GavinNewsom RESIGN. Your far left policies have ruined our state. And also our party,” she added.

Ana Kasparian, the co-host of the wildly leftist “Young Turks” podcast, also slammed Los Angeles’ leadership in a tweet.
“We’re the highest taxed yet we have encampments and squalor everywhere. Even worse, we don’t have enough firefighters to respond to the absolute disaster we’re experiencing right now,” she tweeted earlier this week.

CA, and especially LA, is controlled by Democrats. THEY are responsible. No more passing the buck.
