Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) reportedly joined a meeting of the House Freedom Caucus with President-elect Donald Trump.

The Texas Republican who Trump called out as “very unpopular” last month when he threatened to primary him, seemed to be a surprise addition to the meeting held at Mar-a-Lago in Florida.

U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.), and other House members were also in attendance at Trump’s Palm Beach home, according to a picture posted by Rep. Eli Craine (R-Ariz.).

“Great night at Mar-a-Lago with the House Freedom Caucus. We joined President Trump and Elon Musk for dinner to talk about the path forward,” Crane wrote in the caption of the post.

“Ahead of Friday’s Mar-a-Lago meeting, members told The Hill that they were going to make the case to Trump for their preferred policies and strategy. They planned to ask Trump how they can help achieve his legislation goals while also not spending too much,” the outlet reported.

“The meeting comes as Republicans are trying to figure out how to pass Trump’s agenda on the border, energy, tax cuts and other issues, and whether that would require two bills or one,” The Hill added.

According to Punchbowl’s Melanie Zanona, during the meeting, Trump “preached a message of unity, remarking how Democrats have horrible policies but they stick together.”

She also noted that incoming DOGE co-leader Elon Musk was also in attendance.

“There was also a discussion of reconcilliation strategy. Trump has thrown weight behind one-bill approach out of deference to Speaker Johnson,” the reporter added. “But the HFC made clear it’s very favorable to a two-step approach, which would allow for a more immediate win on the border.”
