Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce angrily denied that his team lost to the Denver Broncos on purpose to keep the Cincinnati Bengals out of the playoffs.

In fact, he said he would have welcomed them to the playoffs since he fears no team.

Despite getting off to a slow start this season, quarterback Joe Burrow and company reeled off five straight victories to conclude the season. Indeed, they gave themselves a chance to make the postseason. They needed help, however. They needed a loss by the Miami Dolphins (the Jets took care of them) and the Broncos.

Instead, the Chiefs sat starters and got smoked by Denver, 38-0. Broncos in, Bengals out. Some began speculating that the Chiefs didn’t want to see a red-hot Cincinnati team in the playoffs.

Did They Try To Keep The Bengals Out Of The Playoffs?

The Bengals lost to the Chiefs in Week 2 on a last-second 51-yard field goal by Harrison Butker after the refs rescued KC with a late penalty.

Cincinnati has been much improved since that point. Would it have been enough to take out the two-time defending Super Bowl champions? We’ll never know. However, some folks thought that the Chiefs were playing it safe.

ESPN writer Don Van Natta Jr. was one of the first to throw out the accusation that the Chiefs took a “dive.”

“The Chiefs taking a dive today is a lowlight of this NFL season,” Van Natta wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “Whether their incentive was only rest or also blocking the dreaded Bengals from the playoffs, it’s just a supremely bad look— and likely self-sabotaging— for a team hoping to three-peat.”

Kelly Stafford, wife of Rams QB Matthew Stafford, also took a jab at the Chiefs after the Bengals were ousted.

“I know, it sucked for the Bengals fans. Because they needed the Chiefs to beat Denver and they didn’t. So, poor Bengals,” Stafford said. “Well, honestly, I bet the Chiefs did that on purpose because they don’t want to face the Bengals right now because they are hot.”

Travis Kelce Slams People Saying The Chiefs Were Afraid Of The Bengals

Kelce, during a recent episode of his “New Heights” podcast, was not pleased with the accusations. And he let his thoughts be known.

“I ain’t scared of nobody…I wanted them (Bengals) in the playoffs. I want to slay every dragon one by one, like Mortal Kombat…I don’t even want this to be like a, we play the lowest seed. Just give me the best teams,” Travis insisted.

“AFC, NFC, give me all of them, Mortal Kombat style. I’ll go through every [expletive] one of them just giving them my best effort,” he continued. “I ain’t scared of a single soul man.”

Kelce offered some praise for the Bengals as a “fun” team. However, he contends he’d “play them at the Walmart parking lot.”

Which, ironically, is where he got that Uncle Rico haircut.
