Rarely has media spin control bias been more sharply on display than during the coverage of the Los Angeles wildfires by FOX 11 local news on Wednesday.
Their Good Day LA anchor Melvin Robert heard something from former L.A. mayoral candidate Rick Caruso — who lost to Karen Bass in the primary — that was critical of the local officials regarding the lack of water for the fire fighters. Robert immediately went into spin mode and denied any such lack of water only to be contradicted a few moments later by his own reporter on the scene with the fire fighters.
Here is the scene as it played out much to the humiliation of poor Melvin.

After Melvin Robert contradicted Caruso by going into spin mode and denying there was a lack of water for the firefighters, the camera switched to the reporter on the scene in Pacific Palisade, Gigi Graciette, who immediately fact checked him with this: “Well, firefighters have told me they have no water on this block. …They have no water to put on this fire.”
That humiliating fact check caused quite a storm in response on X. Some examples:
Has anyone done a wellness check on Melvin Robert? I’d say his ratings will be under water, but there isn’t any…

Dude went full-on Brian Stelter.
You never go full-on Brian Stelter.

Why is Melvin Robert deflecting for Mayor Bass and playing DNC spokesperson? He should be more factual and unbiased as a news anchor.https://t.co/zygoKA6e7o

Now if we could only see Morning Mika debunk Morning Joe’s many spin control falsehoods just as quickly.
