As the deadly Los Angeles wildfires continued to spread, one ABC News anchor drew more attention to his focus on fashion than his reporting.
ABC News anchor David Muir came under heavy criticism after a shot of his reporting from the scene of the fires revealed he had pulled back the firefighter-style jacket he was wearing with a peg to make it appear more fitting.
“Good evening tonight from Pacific Palisades here in southern California as multiple wildfires burn at this hour, out of control, across Los Angeles,” he reported on “ABC World News Tonight.”
If you care about how your waistline looks while people’s entire lives are ablaze right next to you, you’re an absolute douchebag.

Muir told viewers how severe drought and winds had “made for a deadly and horrific combination, turning parts of Los Angeles County into a hellscape,” as he stood before what was left in Palisades Village.
“This is the town center of sorts, where there’s normally shopping, a place to eat. Tonight, as you can see here behind me, it’s been completely wiped away,” he said.
But as Muir turned toward the images behind him, a wooden clothes peg appeared to be attached to the back of the yellow emergency jacket he was wearing.
“There are still flames burning from multiple buildings here and smoke rising from the ash. Again, this is where the community would be at a time of day like this. Now gone,” he continued as the view of his cinched-back jacket continued to be displayed.
Los Angeles resident and television star Jack Osbourne posted a video of the news report on X which was quickly shared – and condemned – by many.
“Nice Jacket Bro. Glad you look nice and svelte with those clothes line pegs, while our city burns to the ground,” he wrote.

Others also roasted the ABC News anchor.
“What kind of a tool uses a clothespin to keep his jacket tight on his body…,” asked one X user.
My god – how vain do you have to be….????????

Wow! He’s like, does this jacket make me look fat? Get me some clothes line pegs, stat!

Others came to Muir’s defense, noting the gravity of the California disaster.
It’s a sad day when I wake to people attacking seasoned journalist David Muir over using clothespins to secure his fire jacket when Ca is ablaze, 1000’s of people have lost everything and pets and wildlife are being cooked alive. Y’all need to check to see if your soul is missing

“This was 30 seconds before air, a producer stepped in to try to fix coat in the wind,” a source remarked about the practical reason for the clothespin, according to Mediaite. “This had nothing to do with David Muir asking for anything.”
It was not clear when the specific video clip aired but the ABC News broadcast published on YouTube showed Muir with a more fitted jacket and no clothes peg.
