Leftists are angry that a biological woman has chosen to sell activewear clothing that excludes transgender people.
Jennifer Sey, the founder of XX-XY Athletics, is a former US Gymnastics Champion and an advocate for females in sports. The recent rise of transgender athletes pushing women out of their own sports and teams has been a hot-button topic for culture warriors, many of whom worry about the complete eradication of safe places for females to compete.
Sey is hitting back after her pro-biological woman clothing received a negative review in the form of an op-ed by Soleil Ho in the San Francisco Chronicle. The piece titled: “Is this the next MAGA hat? Transphobic apparel is the new hotness” claims shirts reading “Save Girls’ Sports” and “It’s Common Sense. XX ≠ XY” are “anti-trans.”
Sey originally responded to the article with humor, writing in an X post “This article wins for the dumbest thing I’ve read this year so far.” She also discussed the matter with Fox News Digital, defending her business as “the only brand standing up for the protection of women’s sports and spaces.”
“I was inspired to start XX-XY Athletics because I looked around at all of the athletic brands out there claiming to champion female athletes and ignoring this issue that is right in front of us, which is more and more males entering women’s sports,” she explained. “Not only ignoring it, but I would argue, in many instances, standing on the wrong side of the issue.”
She also accused the SF Chronicle of “trolling” her, a longtime resident of the city, after she emerged as a critic of their strict COVID lockdown policies.
“The San Francisco Chronicle likes to troll me a bit. They don’t like that I’m so critical of the city and their institutions and their governance. That said, I’ll take it, you know, if XX-XY athletics is the ‘new hotness,’ that sounds like it’s pretty on-trend to me.”
Today I’m launching my own clothing brand. It’s the only athletic brand to stand up for female athletes and the protection of women’s sports.
It’s called XX-XY Athletics.

Talking about Ho’s article, Sey described it as “stupid” and “full of lies.”
“The article overall is … I don’t have another word for it other than ‘stupid’ and ‘filled with lies.’ The writer makes the assertion that vast numbers of studies show that sex is a spectrum. That’s just false. There are no studies. She cites no studies. She links to no studies. There is no evidence that sex is a spectrum,” Sey points out. “Sex is binary. I don’t know how a newspaper can not even fact check. I know it’s an op-ed, but you know, basic facts should not be violated, I think, in an actual newspaper.”
However, she is grateful that they gave her the opportunity to get her business’s mission out there saying “and the fact is, it’s good for truth.”
“There is such a thing as biological reality,” she added.
