My original plan this morning was to opine on Dana White’s appointment to the Meta board of directors and what it “could” mean for Facebook’s becoming more conservative-friendly. Then Mark Zuckerburg dropped a video saying he is undoing everything his company has done to censor opinions, and… I’ll let him tell you.

But these bars are key:

“The recent elections also feel like a cultural tipping point towards once again prioritizing speech. So we’re going to get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies, and restoring free expression on our platforms.”

So what does this mean? Keep in mind that a lot of this should be filed under “if true” and “we’ll see.”

They’re replacing “fact” checking with more of a Community Notes styled after X. As Zuck says in his video, a lot of the “fact” checking came from legacy media that did not act in good faith regarding their claims of “disinformation.” The “fact” checkers have become too politically biased, as we’ve seen during… well, the entirety of the Biden Administration.

Zuck says they will “simplify” content policies and take a “new approach” to policy enforcement. Again, “if true” and “we’ll see.” What’s key here is they’ll be moving Meta’s content moderation teams OUT of California and having the operation run out of Texas. Of course, by “Texas,” I’m sure he means Austin. But it’s better than the blue-haired socialist whackadoodles living in Palo Alto, many of whom I’m sure will be threatening a walkout after they watch this video.

What’s most interesting for us is the alleged bringing back of civic content. AKA, political and cultural content. AKA, what we do here at the Louder with Crowder Dot Com website. The company had throttled almost all political and cultural posts, focusing heavily on the two issues he mentioned: immigration and gender. According to Zuckerberg, the company will stop doing that, and if you follow us on Facebook, in theory, you’ll start seeing the posts you signed up to see. A novel concept, I know.

But again, I can’t stress enough “if true” and “we’ll see.” Is this a new commitment to free speech and allowing mainstream opinions that progressive twats don’t like to flourish? Or is it to stroke the ego of Trump, MAGA, and conservatives just enough so that they don’t do anything about social media regulations like Section 230? It’s easy for Zuckerberg to make all these claims. It’s easier for a single Meta engineer to press a button censoring posts, knowing that most of the company won’t notice or snitch.

We’ll find out in a few months, I guess. I’d like to give Zuck the benefit of the doubt. But I’ve also worked in and on social media too long to fully do so.
