While I’d love to believe that Donald Trump’s win in November has led leftists like Mark Zuckerberg to rethink their oh-so-skewed priorities, the sad fact of the matter is these recent course reversals are merely business decisions based on the fallout from Trump’s win and Elon Musk’s success with X.

If I sound bitter, it’s because I am.

Yes, it’s amusing to watch the Silicon Valley bros make the trek to Mar-a-Lago to pay homage to the president-elect, but I, like many other conservatives, have been on the receiving end of the Zuckerbergs of the world trying to shut me up simply because my politics are different.

WHOA: Meta Ends Fact-Checking As Zuckerberg Vows to Restore Free Expression on Facebook

Zuckerberg Is Following the More Lucrative Path Elon Set as Predicted, but Should We Trust Him?

Before I go full throttle with my story, here’s something I like to tell my kids when they wonder which side is telling the truth: The side that’s trying to silence others are the liars. This is a complete rip-off from the teachings of the great Dennis Prager, but it consistently holds true.

And, oh how Zuck did silence us.

A bit of backstory. Back in 2008, I helped found an online group for conservative women called Smart Girl Politics. We were a virtual-only organization and heavily relied on social media to help us organize and grow, something we did very successfully during the Tea Party years. Because we were a volunteer-only group with very little funding, the activist part of the group fizzled out around 2015.

But I loved the brand and kept it alive through our Facebook page. We tried to keep up with the times and changing algorithms, eventually becoming a conservative meme page. I set our Facebook tagline as: “Mocking the left, one meme at a time.” Like most right-leaning pages, we got an occasional slap on the wrist for crossing what Facebook considered to be “the line,” but we mostly flew below the radar.

That was until COVID and Joe Biden came along. That’s when Zuck and his crew went into censorship overdrive.

Ironically, it was COVID and Joe Biden that helped our page grow by the thousands during the first several months of the Biden administration. Turns out, we weren’t the only ones who amused themselves during lockdown by mocking our enfeebled president.

The botched Afghanistan withdrawal was our undoing. Zuck just wasn’t going to let you criticize Joe Biden over this.

I have a pretty good record of all of this because I took the memes over to Substack after Facebook took down our page and rescinded my access as administrator. Thirty days later, after a Facebook rep told me I’d never get the page back, they restored the page and returned my access.

It didn’t last long.

It was obvious that Zuck had no intention of letting free speech flourish on Facebook, so the Substack turned into our main meme home. We’ve been having good fun with it.  (It’s still going strong if you’re interested.)

As RedState’s Mike Miller reported Tuesday, Mark Zuckerberg is now declaring his love for free speech and is vowing to eliminate the filters and fact-checkers that he allowed to be so harmful to conservatives for years. Here’s Mike’s take on the changes:

In a nutshell, Zuckerberg has apparently decided to read the obvious writing (righting?) on the left-wing wall and stop the bleeding on Facebook.

Undoubtedly a good business decision, but what about all the damage he and Meta have done to conservatives and conservative media? Mine is just a smaller page (91k and holding for over three years now, with no growth since the Afghanistan meme-related bans), but what about the big players? While our leftist counterparts were allowed to prosper (literally getting big revenue shares), we were silenced, banned, and prevented from being in the conversation. Those big accounts have lost out on revenue because Mark Zuckerberg and his cronies thought conservatives were yucky.

Sorry, but Zuck’s newfound love of free speech is just words at this point. His half-hearted pledge to improve things rings hollow to conservatives who have been under the ban hammer for at least a decade. An apology would be a good place to start, but being a leftist means never having to apologize.

There was some talk on X Tuesday about Facebook providing reparations to all the conservative accounts they damaged over the years, and I’m all for it. Zuck should put some money where his mouth is and prove he’s serious about stopping the censorship.

Reparations for conservatives!
