McDonald’s joined a growing list of companies that have made the move to roll back their “woke” DEI policies.
The fast food giant announced Monday that it was cutting back on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies within the company. seeming to follow a trend that is being celebrated after Walmart, Ford Motor Co., John Deere, Lowe’s and Toyota made similar moves.
Conservative activist and filmmaker Robby Starbuck, has worked tirelessly to bring the internal policies to light and urge companies to move away from “woke” values that consumers and activists have denounced.
In a social media post, Starbuck related how McDonald’s announced their changes three days after he alerted the company that he would be “doing a story on woke policies there.”
“As our first corporate flip of 2025 I just want to say, HAPPY NEW YEAR!” he declared as he celebrated the “BIG news.”
BIG news: @McDonalds is ending a number of woke DEI policies today. Now let me tell you what’s changing and how it happened.
3 days ago I told McDonald’s that I’d be doing a story on woke policies there. Today they’ve announced the following changes:

President-elect Donald Trump brought much attention to the company when he “worked” a shift in one of the franchise locations ahead of the November election.

“They will END their diversity ‘goals’ for how many of each race they hire. Many (myself included) have referred to these types of ‘goals’ as quotas because these ‘goals’ often operate as quotas that discriminate against white job applicants,” Starbuck noted in his post.
“They’ll no longer participate in the HRC’s woke Corporate Equality Index scoring system that forces the trans agenda into the workplace in exchange for a perfect score. They also won’t participate in other 3rd party surveys,” he continued.
He explained that McDonald’s will also be ending ” the DEI pledge for their supply chain,” noting that the focus will “now be on merit.”
The company’s “diversity team” would also reportedly be “evolving” in the coming year, Starbuck noted, as it becomes simply an “inclusion” team.
“This name change is more fitting for McDonald’s in light of our inclusion value and better aligns with this team’s work,” McDonald’s said in a company statement.
“McDonald’s position and our commitment to inclusion is steadfast,” an open letter by McDonald’s Chairman and CEO Chris Kempczinski and others read.
It continued:
Following the Supreme Court ruling in STUDENTS FOR FAIR ADMISSIONS, INC. v. PRESIDENT AND FELLOWS OF HARVARD COLLEGE, we also assessed the shifting legal landscape to anticipate how this ruling may impact corporations such as McDonald’s. And finally, we benchmarked our approach to other companies who are also re-evaluating their own programs.
“We’ve now changed policy at companies worth well over $2.3 Trillion dollars, with many millions of employees who have better workplace environments as a result,” Starbuck explained. “Our campaigns are so effective that we’re getting the biggest companies on earth to change their policies without me even posting a story exposing their woke policies first.”
“The era of wokeness is dying right in front of our eyes. The landscape of corporate America is quickly shifting to sanity and neutrality. We are the trend, not the anomaly anymore,” he added.
With the new year and a new administration heading to the White House, McDonald’s launched its new “McValue” meal deal this week. The new money-saving menu will include “even more ways” for customers “to enjoy the food they love, for less,” with the addition of eight items to the menu with some costing just one dollar.
