Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Fox Business host Larry Kudlow engaged in a lively back and forth about how quickly the GOP-controlled Senate will be able to get President-elect Donald J. Trump’s America first agenda into place after he’s inaugurated.

On Monday’s edition of “Kudlow,” the host, a former economic adviser to the president during his first White House term, jousted with the Texas Republican over the idea that Trump’s agenda would have to be enacted in chunks by being broken into smaller bills during a nearly ten-minute exchange.

Like the incoming president, the host insists that extending the 2017 tax cuts should be a part of the same bill for border security and government funding which could be complicated by the GOP’s razor-thin majority in the House of Representatives.

“I think the logic behind two bills was, start with a simple bill that funds border security that makes the changes to stop the invasion at our southern border and that addresses energy and unleashes American energy,” Cruz explained. “Both of those are relatively simple and straightforward and both of those, I think, would be quite easy to unify Republicans and get us on the same page, which would mean we would start the first couple of months with a big win delivering on major elements of the president’s policy.”

“Oh, Senator. Senator, you’re just so disappointing on this,” chided Kudlow.

I can’t believe I’m hearing this from my dear friend, Senator Ted Cruz,” he continued. “First of all, you’re gonna have to have certainty on the economy with respect to not only tax cuts for 15 percent for corporations, but also small businesses, 100 percent expensing, which is running out, individual middle-class families gonna need help. You’ve got to tell them they’re gonna get extensions…. Let me take your political point.”

“I disagree with you on almost every point here. I love this, Senator,” Kudlow said. “It’s all in good fun by the way.”

“This has never happened,” Cruz insisted.

“You’re only gonna get one bite out of the House apple, trust me,” Kudlow said. “I mean, this is what Mike Johnson is telling people. It’s a commonsense position. Furthermore, you yourself, along with President Trump, promised me a middle-class boom. That was the genesis of this whole victory. Economy, number one, followed by immigration.”

“And I’m all for closing the border, you’re gonna have to do it. Get it done, you know what?” Kudlow added. “These bills are almost written already for heaven’s sake… I’ve had so many calls with Senate leadership. You’re not gonna get something in January, it’s gonna take forever. That’s why you may as well throw tax cuts in there. And as Mike Johnson said, you can get it done by April, maybe by May, call it 100 days, call it whatever. Call it ‘Trump promises kept.’ That’s what you want. Senator Cruz, I’m crushed that you’re coming out on the wrong side of this historical divide.”

“Members of Congress are getting to work on one powerful Bill that will bring our Country back, and make it greater than ever before. We must Secure our Border, Unleash American Energy, and Renew the Trump Tax Cuts, which were the largest in History, but we will make it even better – NO TAX ON TIPS. IT WILL ALL BE MADE UP WITH TARIFFS, AND MUCH MORE, FROM COUNTRIES THAT HAVE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF THE U.S. FOR YEARS. Republicans must unite, and quickly deliver these Historic Victories for the American People. Get smart, tough, and send the Bill to my desk to sign as soon as possible. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote in a Sunday post to Truth Social.
